Mastering the Art of Lawn Care: A Day at Allett Lawn Academy

A Day at the Allett Lawn Academy

October 10th saw us host our second Allett Lawn Academy at Old Fold Manor Golf Club in Barnet near London. After the successes of our first event held at the Staffordshire County Showground in Stafford we wanted to take our Lawn Academy 'on tour'. Eventually we aim to run them all over the country to make it accessible for all.

With esteemed lawn expert Richard Salmon of Pro Lawncare UK at the helm, attendees embarked on an enlightening journey aimed at developing their lawn care skills and cultivating a deeper understanding of the intricate art and science of lawn maintenance.

The day commenced at 9:00 am with breakfast and time for our attendees to network with each other within a community united by their shared love for lawns.  It was great to see everyone mingling like they had known each other for years and this set the tone for the day’s proceedings.

Richard Salmon, a gentleman with 38 years of expertise in agronomy and lawn care management kindly shared his wealth of knowledge with us all. His theory sessions explored the nuanced science behind rejuvenating lawns. Topics such as grass history, life cycles, grass varieties, thatch management, weed identification, soil types, nutrients, moss control and strategic irrigation methods were talked through comprehensively with plenty of time for questions from our guests. Additionally, attendees were provided with a structured lawncare calendar enabling them to ensure their efforts benefited their lawns throughout the seasons.

''I wanted to learn more about improving my lawn and taking it to the next level so enrolled to be taught by the professionals! It was great to see Richard explaining the finer details to lawn make up, grasses, treatments and soils etc. I think he did a fantastic job in the time allotted to him. I would definitely recommend your lawn academy to anyone! I’m looking forward to the next one already! Oh and the food and venue were excellent!'' Brian Brown

“ I attended the Allett Lawn Academy as I have recently had a new lawn laid as part of some landscaping work and I wanted to learn how to best look after it.  The day exceeded my expectations on every level. The venue was spot on, the information presented by Richard Salmon was excellent and relevant and the practical session was very helpful and great fun.  All the other attendees were friendly good fun to be with for the day.  I’d thoroughly recommend the day to anyone who has more than a passing interest in their lawn''.  Peter Woodliffe Thomas
''Thank-you for organising the Allett Lawn Academy. I feel there was something for everyone, regardless of knowledge and ability''  Duncan Holdsworth

The day’s highlights featured interactive workshops showcasing Allett mowers and their cartridges- essential lawn maintenance tools that every passionate lawn owner needs to take their lawn to the next level.  Richard Salmon took guests through a renovation process from start to finish including mowing, scarifying, seeding, top dressing and fertilising. Each participant received a bespoke soil analysis report which they were able to discuss with Richard to develop a lawn plan based on pH and nutrient levels.

As the day drew to a close attendees departed Old Fold Manor Golf Club not only enriched with knowledge but also inspired and motivated to revolutionise their home lawns. We hope to see some of our guests enter our Allett Creative Lawn Stripes Competition in the years to come and we can't wait to see you all again on Level 2. It was brilliant to spend the day with so many like minded people that didn't judge each other for talking about grass all day.
