Allett Quick Change Verticut Cartridge

The QC cartridges have been replaced by RC versions. They are identical in size and function, with the only difference being added side brackets to support grassbag frames on newer models. These brackets can be removed with one screw each and replaced with rubber bungs to convert them back to QC.

The Verticutter cartridge is a popular cartridge in the Allett range.

Thin and closely spaced blades effectively lift lateral growth and remove moss which helps encourage tillering and new growth.  The blades of the Verticut cartridge help pick up flat-lying grasses that your cylinder would otherwise miss.

Verticutting can be carried out on a more frequent basis and is the perfect way to keep on top of your thatch level between your yearly scarification. A small amount of thatch can be healthy for your lawn, but anything over half an inch needs to be removed as it prevents the healthy growth process. Generally, the verticut cartridge removes twice as much material as the scarifier cartridge. You can use the cartridge every two weeks or so from April to September to keep on top of thatch and lateral lying grasses.

Start with the cartridge on the setting you usually cut at and gradually lower- the cartridge should not be penetrating the soil as it will damage your blades. You want the blades to be touching the thatch layer and above. You will be amazed at how much this cartridge gets out of your lawn

Benefits of Verticutting

Encourages upright grass growth

Verticutting cuts through lateral growth and runners, helping the grass grow more vertically. This improves the overall look and makes the lawn easier to mow cleanly.

Improves stripe definition

By standing the grass up before cutting, you get sharper, more defined stripes. This is why it’s commonly used on high end or presentation lawns.

Reduces light thatch build up

While not as aggressive as a dethatcher, a verticutter removes small amounts of thatch and organic material, helping prevent buildup over time.

Enhances cut quality

With the grass standing upright and less tangled, the mower can cut more evenly, resulting in a cleaner, more consistent finish.
